CELEBRATE WOMEN'S EQUALITY DAY
Monday, August 26, is the 87th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which gave women — after a long and hard struggle — the right to vote. AAUW members were a key part of the fight for women’s suffrage then, and AAUW members know that equity is still an issue today. Women’s Equality Day is a time to remember that our votes remain a vital tool for shaping the policy issues that affect women every day.
ACT
Make your voice heard. Write a letter to the editor of your local paper celebrating this honored day and a woman’s right to vote.
ENGAGE
Exercise your right to vote and encourage others to do the same. AAUW provides resources that can help, such as the Woman-to-Woman Voter Turnout manual and the Power of One Vote postcards, stickers, and posters.
LEARN
Educate yourself and others about Women’s Equality Day at the National Women’s History Project.
